Sharon Beals is a photographer living and working in San Francisco. In the last ten years her involvement with environmental issues has led back to the art world as a way to communicate her concerns about the environment.
From late 2007 until 2010 Sharon Beals worked on the photographs and text for Nests, Fifty Nests and the Birds that Built Them, to invite a other to learn about birds and their habitat needs and conservation issues. She photographed specimen nest and eggs collected from the 1800’s to present day at The California Academy of Sciences, the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology in Berkeley, and the Western Foundation of Vertebrate Zoology in Camarillo, CA.
Her work has been published in Audubon Magazine, Scientific American, and Nests was listed as one of the best photographic books of 2011 by American Photo. Her photographs can be found in the State Department Art in the Embassies program, The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission and many private collections.
